Week 7, Term 1

Friday Funday took on a new meaning this week as it was Purple Cake Day. Nelson Central School has been involved with Purple Cake Day for a number of years. Each syndicate organises it's own fundraising activity and we combine the money at the end of the day. This year we raised in excess of $1000 to donate to children in Haiti, Nepal and Kenya for a better life. We tried to dress in as much purple as possible.

We started the day with a whole school assembly. The choir was magnificent. We joined in with them for a couple of songs and then they performed a song which they had composed themselves. It was beautiful! We had some special guest speakers that came along to share some of the successful stories from the children we have helped in the past.

In the Kowhai syndicate we did face painting to raise money! Not everyone wanted to have their faces painted and that was okay.

Next week....
Our sounds will be d & g.
Our tricky words will be my and up.
Our maori word for the week is 'potae' - 'hat'.
During maths we will be adding with 5.
Please note that swimming has stopped for this term as the pool temperature has dropped considerably over the last week. The children have made great progress and we have certainly had a lot of fun.
This week is a short week as it is our Easter break. School finishes on Thursday at 3pm and resumes on Wednesday 30th March.

Have a happy and safe week!
