Week 11 Term 1

In Renwick 3 we work cooperatively to complete tasks. This was a tricky puzzle but these fabulous children worked as a team to complete it!

Everyday we have milk at school. Not everyone chooses to have milk so instead we can get our lunch boxes and drink bottles for a quick 'top up' of energy.

During maths this week we have been doing addition with 5. We were in groups using the 'Fly flips' where we had to work out how many flies were hiding on the reverse of the card which had 5 on the front.

At lunch time the Kowhai children sit on the deck outside Room 11, 12 and 12a. It is a great opportunity for us to chat with our old and new friends. When we turn 6 we can go around to the front field to have lunch with the rest of the school. Next term we hope to sit out the front of Renwick House so that we will have more room and be able to enjoy the warm winter sun.

This week at school we had a 'Lock Down' drill. An announcement came over the speaker system to let us know. We huddled together under the whiteboard and kept very quiet while Neroli made sure the windows and doors were locked. We stayed there until Neroli told us it was over.
We did such a great job we decided to treat ourselves with apples and popcorn for afternoon tea!

Thanks to everyone for such a fabulous term. We have so much to celebrate and be proud of!
Happy holidays and keep safe!

Week 10 Term 1

This week we had our first class outing to the museum for a Measurement workshop. We had a fabulous time. A special thanks to our wonderful parents who came to help us out. When we got back to the classroom we decided to measure the length of our class. It is 13 children long!

On Tuesday and Wednesday morning we had special visitors come to spend time with us from Bridge Street Early Learning and Hardy Kids. They will be turning 5 soon! We helped them with lots of different activities.

Our lesson with Haley this week was a creative one. We made special Chinese lanterns.

During our library session this week we were learning the correct way to put books away on the shelf. When we take a non fiction book off the shelf we put a plastic ruler in so that we know where to put the book back when we have finished with it. We make sure the spine of the book is facing outwards because then we are able to see the title of the book. It also has the special numbers on it that the librarians use to shelve the books.

On Friday we had a very special visitor to Renwick 3...Sachi! Sachi is Neroli's new puppy. Her daughter Emma brought her in because we were dying to meet her! Sachi means happiness in Japanese.

Next week....

Our sounds will be f/b.
Our tricky words will be with/down.
During maths we are doing simple addition.
All library books are due back this week.
School finishes at 3pm on Friday for our well earned 2 week break.
Have a happy and safe week!

Week 9 Term 1

This week with Kathryn we have been learning how to catch a small ball. We had to hold our hands in a cupped position rather than  the big 'w'  for a big ball. It was a bit tricky but in true Renwick 3 style we just kept trying! We warmed up by playing a game called 'Toilet Flush'. That made us giggle quite a bit!

Here we are at writing time. We start by drawing a picture plan. This helps us to remember what it is we are writing about. We use our writing cards to help us write tricky words and to find letters of the sounds we can hear in words.

When Haley came this week she was teaching us how to say some body parts in Chinese. We learned a dance to help us remember them!

Our hockey skills have improved greatly from our first session!
