Week 8 Term 2

This week we had a 'Wacky Hair Day' to raise money for the Child Cancer Foundation. We looked pretty crazy but thanks to everyones effort the school raised over $400.

During maths we have been learning to count backwards for subtraction. We loved playing Snakes and Ladders to help us learn.

On Friday Funday our older buddies came up to show us how to make kites. What a lot of fun we had!

During Discovery Time we were busy creating and making.... from ship building, dressmaking, hut making to important jobs with clipboards!

Next week....

Our sounds will be ee/or.
Our tricky words will be with/we.
During maths we will be doing subtraction and measurement.
I will be out of the class on Tuesday and Wednesday. Caroline and Sam will be teaching in Renwick 3.

Week 7 Term 2

We had yet another busy week in Renwick 3 this week.

On Tuesday and Thursday we had Constable Susan come to talk to us about keeping ourselves safe. We did lots of talking, role playing and learning what to do when we feel unsafe. Constable Susan tried to trick us but she found it very difficult!

On Thursday afternoons we go down to the library for our computer time. This week we were learning how to get onto our blogsite. We were so good at exploring our blog that we found where Neroli had put Starfall and other fun learning sites!

Friday was our school cross country. Unfortunately I didn't manage to get very many photos between running with children and supervising....

Week 6 Term 2

We have had an action packed week even thouh it has only been 4 days.

During maths we have been counting backwards from 20. We have played games and used the number lines to help us. Counting back is an important skill for us to be able to do subtraction.

On Wednesday we had some legends from Renwick 3 who graduated from the HPP Programme. There was a special ceremony followed by a scrumptious morning tea!

On Friday we celebrated Matariki with a range of activities followed by a shared kai. In Renwick 3 we explored some Maori Myths and Legends using drama.

Next week...

Our sounds will be ou/qu.
Our tricky words will be out/shout.
During maths we will continue counting backwards and subtraction from 10/20.
We will be starting our 'Keeping Ourselves Safe' topic. Constable Susan will be coming in on Tuesday and Thursday to deliver the lessons which cover 'Touch We Like' and 'Secrets'. This is taught in very broad and general terms. If you have any concerns please come and see me.
On Friday we will be having our school Cross Country. The Year 0/1 will be running first. An exact time will be notified during the week. It will be around 1.30pm.
As a rule Fridays are our news day. It seems a lot of children are bringing toys to school during the week. Inevitably they come out at break times which is not permitted. Please help to convince your child to leave them at home to save items being damaged or lost.
Have a happy and safe week!

Week 5 Term 2

This week we had a visit to the Museum to learn about Maori Myths and Legends. Nicki showed us lots of different ways to tell a story such as, paintings, carvings, tapestries as well as by using our words. We explored a number of legends and concluded our visit by making a mini octopus using pipe cleaners.
A big thank you to all our parents who came to help us!

On Monday Mel came to visit us to share some information about our rivers and streams. She had a model to demonstrate what happens to our rivers when we mistreat them. The rivers flow into the sea and if we pollute our rivers we not only destroy the critters that live there but also those who live in the sea.

Next Friday we are going to be celebrating Matariki, which is the Maori New Year. We will have rotation activities within our syndicate followed by a shared kai for lunch. In the afternoon we will have a whole school sharing time. We have been practising the Matariki Macarena which we will perform for the whole school.
