Suter Art Gallery Trip

Today we were lucky enough to have a visit to the new and improved Suter Art Gallery. Esther our teacher met us at the door. She gave us a brief history of the the gallery and pointed out some old and new parts of the building.
We moved onto looking at some beautiful carvings which we attempted to replicate on our Christmas tree drawings. We then used these designs for our clay Christmas trees. It was so much fun. We loved it! Esther commented on how well behaved we were too!
A big thanks you to the lovely parents who came to help us because we couldn't have done it with out you.

Week 3/4 Term 4

Over the last few weeks we having been focusing on learning our basic facts during maths time...we have found lots of different ways to help us learn!

At literacy time we working with capital letters. We practised writing our names using only one capital letter which of course was at the beginning.

We have been lucky enough to have some Year 3 expert readers come and help us with our reading.

This term we have been reading, writing and listening to narrative stories. Here we are in small groups creating a story together using some silly cards. We had lots of laughs with great discussions and ideas.

On Thursday mornings we get together with our Buddy Class in the library. Our buddies help us select books to take home and share books with us too.

This Saturday is not only Guy Fawkes but the anniversary of Parihaka. We spent a lot of time discussing peace and how we strive to live together in peace and harmony. We made headbands with a white feather which is a symbol of compassion for each other and for our environment.

Next week...

During literacy we will focus on blends tr/dr
Our tricky words will be once/too.
At maths time we will carrying on with subtraction from 10/20 and beyond.
Have a happy and safe week!

Week 2 Term 4

A few snaps from our week....

Next week...
During literacy we will be working on using capital letters and full stops.
At maths time our focus remains on basic facts.

On Tuesday 13th of December the Kowhai teachers have planned a fabulous action packed ‘Big Day Out’ at Founders Park to celebrate the end of another successful year. The children and teachers will leave school on buses to Founders Park at 9.45am and will return at 1.30pm approximately. Parents, pre-schoolers and caregivers are to meet us at the front entrance or the field behind the café for 10am. We have arranged a train ride and a range of rotational activities for the day. The cost of the day will be $6 per child. However if you have pre-schoolers attending there will be a small charge of $2.50 for the train ride. We would very much appreciate some parent helpers to assist at the various activities while at the park. When we arrive back at school we have booked out the school swimming pool for the afternoon to cool down! School will finish at the normal time of 3pm.

Have a happy and safe short week!

Week 1 Term 4

Welcome back to Term 4!

We have an action packed nine and a half weeks to end the year.
As I reflect over the year I feel so immensely proud of the children for the challenges they have overcome, their learning and development and their forever sense of fun. It warms my heart to hear the best part of their day is being with their friends. Not to mention the strength and laughter they have given me which I am very appreciative of!

Here are a few snaps of our week...

A big thanks to A.J. who brought in their families latest additions!
